Prior to the 2025 season and the final year of professional baseball at The Diamond, fans voted for the All-Diamond Team, celebrating their favorite players who have come through Richmond over the last 40 years on their way to MLB stardom. One of the three outfield picks was David Justice, who played for the Richmond Braves from 1988-1990. Justice was back in Richmond along with members of the 1989 Richmond Braves team for a reunion celebrating their Governors' Cup championship run during the Richmond Flying Squirrels' final series at The Diamond. While he was in town, Justice sat down with Flying Squirrels broadcaster Trey Wilson to chat about his time in Richmond before going on to a 14-year major league career with the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics.

Diamond Through the Decades: Steve Shields

As the Richmond Flying Squirrels wind down the final weeks of games at The Diamond, former Richmond Braves pitcher Steve Shields returned to town for part of the team's Diamond Through the Decades series. Shields was with the R-Braves from 1984-1986, which included the final season at Parker Field and the first two years of baseball at The Diamond. He was the starting pitcher for the R-Braves' first home game when The Diamond opened on April 17, 1985. He also threw a complete-game shutout in the winner-take-all Game 5 of the 1986 Governors' Cup Championship Series at The Diamond as Richmond won the league title, as well as several other notable moments in that era. Shields sat down with Flying Squirrels broadcaster Trey Wilson to talk about some of those moments in Richmond in the mid-80s.

Richmond Flying Squirrels broadcaster Trey Wilson sat down with Hall of Fame broadcaster Jon Miller to chat about the 1994 Governors Cup, when the Richmond Braves beat the Syracuse Chiefs to win the International League title. With MLB players on strike in 1994, Miller, Joe Morgan and the ESPN baseball crew carried minor league games throughout the end of the summer, including that year's Governors' Cup. Miller reflected on his visit to The Diamond that September for Game 3 of the title series.

The Richmond Flying Squirrels are rolling out the All-Diamond Team, showcasing the fans' choices for their favorite players who came through Richmond since 1985 on their way to MLB stardom. Their choice first first baseman was Ryan Klesko, who played for the Richmond Braves in 1992 and 1993.
Klesko joined Flying Squirrels broadcaster Trey Wilson on April 4, 2019, while he was in town for the team's home opener at The Diamond. We have pulled some clips from that interview where Klesko talked about his time playing in Richmond.

Richmond Flying Squirrels broadcaster Trey Wilson sat down chat with pitcher Dylan Hecht about his path to signing with the San Francisco Giants this spring. The 31-year-old reliever attended UC Santa Barbara and DII Sonoma State before a few brief stints in independent baseball. He retired from baseball in 2021 but continued playing in recreational leagues, and after solving a long medical mystery, he found himself throwing in the upper-90s. Hecht signed with the Giants this spring and climbed to Double-A with Richmond in June.
